Murder of Environmental Activists Hit Record High

A report from Global Witness recorded 227 people were killed in 2020 while trying to protect forests, rivers and other ecosystems that their livelihoods depended on. With an average of more than four people a week, the highest number recorded for the second consecutive year.

Climework's Direct Air Capture Plant Starts Pulling in CO2

Zurich-based Climeworks has opened its Orca “direct air capture” (DAC) project in Iceland, which will collect about 4k tons of CO2 a year and store it underground. The plant was nearly sold out of credits for its entire 12-year lifespan, at launch. Critics say the tech is too expensive & consumes too much energy to operate at scale.
