Year 2023 Week 20 Anushthatri Sharma
Hi,

Hope you are well !
This week, we are spread out between a natural warming event (tropical eastern Pacific Ocean), a win in human-causing climate change (UK) & a lose in human-causing climate change (US).

We are keeping this short & leaving it on you to make a judgement on the climate-action landscape. What do you think ? How are we doing as a society?

Please feel free to write back to us at [email protected]

Stay mindful,

High Probability Of 'El Nino Causing Warming', This Year

There is a 60% chance of an El Nino developing during May-July 2023. El Nino is the warmer phase of the Natural El Nino-Southern Oscillation phenomenon (irregular periodic variation in winds & sea surface temperatures over the tropical eastern Pacific Ocean, affecting the climate of much of the tropics and subtropics), which occurs every 2-7 years and usually lasts 9-12 months.

Wind-Power Has Become The Primary Source Of Electricity In The UK

In the UK, wind turbines have produced more electricity than gas for the first time. A study from Imperial College London found that in the first 3 months of this year, wind farms provided one-third of the nation's electricity. The month of April had a record amount of solar energy production (another renewable), according to National Grid. Note: The UK is aiming for zero emissions from all of its electricity by 2035.
