Mission Starts To Drill Antarctica’s Oldest Ice

An ambitious project named "Beyond EPICA" to retrieve a continuous record of Earth's atmosphere and climate stretching back 1.5 million years is officially "go". The project aims to recover a near-3km-long cylinder of frozen material. Scientists hope this can lead them to an explanation for why Earth's ice ages flipped in frequency in the deep past.

Pandemic Didn't Curb Climate Change Despite Reduced Emissions

A study conducted by NASA and other international space agencies using satellite data, on the effects of the pandemic on the atmosphere, presents some surprising results. While carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions fell by 5.4% in 2020 due to the pandemic, the amount of CO2 in the atmosphere continued to grow at about the same rate as in preceding years.

More People Were Displaced By Extreme Climate Than Conflicts

World Migration Report, 2022 reveals an increase in internal displacement due to disasters, conflict and violence at a time when global mobility ground to a halt due to COVID-19 travel restrictions. According to the report 30.7 million new displacements had been triggered by disasters in 145 nations and territories.
