Year 2024 Week 22 Anushthatri Sharma
Hi,

Hope you are well ?

As global warming intensifies, this summer has hit India ( & several other regions of the world) with unprecedented heat waves. We now have the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing ‘red alerts’ across several states & asking everyday citizens to ’not go out’ between certain afternoon hours when the heat is at its worst. Irrespective of where you are today, you can probably feel it.

If this bi-weekly newsletter is a journal of major climate action events, what does the top three curated pieces on this edition, tell you about where we with the climate movement ?

Think about it, please.

Regards,

Harish

The report finds that none of the companies have plans to stop fossil fuel exploration or halt new extraction projects. The companies also rely on unproven methods to meet their climate targets, such as carbon capture and storage.

Oceans Protected by Climate Law

An international tribunal ruled that countries must reduce greenhouse gases to protect oceans. This is a legal obligation under the U.N. Convention on the Law of the Sea. The decision is significant because it moves climate change discussions from voluntary commitments to legally binding obligations. It is likely to influence future climate change rulings.
