Climate change has resulted in glaciers in Nepal’s Himalayan region melting at an alarming rate. This has been further exaggerated by the increased deposition of black carbon on the glaciers from global emissions - which has led to greater absorption of heat on the glacier surface.
Climate Funds aim to prioritize support to resource-poor and highly vulnerable countries, within the UNFCCC & the Paris Agreement. However, new research has found that several "most vulnerable countries" have not been able to sufficiently access these Funds - particularly those least developed, small island developing states and African states.
The UN-Convened 'Net-Zero Asset Owner Alliance' released a new edition to guide its members on setting further ambitious climate targets, that will align with the very latest IPCC pathways to keep global warming below 1.5°C. It recommends 22%-32% absolute emission reductions by the year 2020-25.
