Year 2022 Week 37 Anushthatri Sharma
Hi,

Some good news ! We are well on track to fixing our ozone-hole problem.

While the ozone-hole is/was another episode of human intervention in our otherwise balanced planet; it does provide a brilliant case-study of how collective global action led by policy, corporate action & active citizenry can solve global problems.

Notice The Similarity in Problem Statement : While the ozone-hole problem had emerged from the excessive emission of ozone-depleting substance into our atmosphere; the on-going climate crisis has primarily emerged from the excessive emission of greenhouse gases.

Please feel free to write to us at : [email protected]. We love hearing from you; and receiving feedbacks.

Stay Safe,

"Litmus Test" Before COP27: Gabon's Record Carbon Credit Issuance

Gabon in Africa is working with the UN to create 'carbon credits' for its forests, which could be sold to rich countries and companies. "Much of Africa is looking at this sale as a litmus test" of whether rich countries are willing to pay developing nations fair prices for forests; says Lee White, the central African country’s environment minister.

Ozone Layer Recovery Makes Significant Progress: NOAA

NOAA announces that the concentration of ozone-depleting substances in the atmosphere has reduced to reach a significant milestone in 2022. NOAA's Ozone Depleting Gas Index tracks the overall stratospheric concentration of chlorine and bromine. This means the ODS levels in 2022 are back to those observed in 1980 before ozone depletion was significant.

Following Campaign Promises, Ministers Urge The UK PM To Maintain Net-Zero Aim

MPs from all parties in the UK have urged Liz Truss to stick to the legally binding target to reach net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. Her campaign promises to expand oil and gas production in the North Sea have led to fears she could renege on actions needed to meet the target.
