China's '1+N' policy framework has set a direction for the country’s carbon neutrality. It currently leads the world in renewable installed capacity. But it has also invested in more coal-fired power plants to meet its energy demand, drawing attention to its strategy.
The first IPCC report, since November's COP26 summit, will focus heavily on regional impacts as well as on cities & coastal communities. It will also outline key 'tipping points' in Climate Change - some of which are irreversible (like the disintegration of the Greenland ice sheet).
HSBC is targeting a 34% reduction in emissions from loans made to its 'oil & gas sector' by 2030; and asking its clients in the sector to produce their ‘decarbonize plans’ by the end of 2022. (More than 100 banks have pledged to reach net-zero carbon emissions by 2050)
