Simon Stiell, Bio: 

Simon Emmanuel Kervin Stiell is from the island of Carriacou in Grenada. He served as a senior minister in the Grenadian government for 9 years before joining the United Nations. With over 33 years of experience, he developed a strong background in addressing global climate challenges and worked in various bilateral, regional, and multilateral settings.

Positions held in the past: 

- Served as Senior Minister in the Government of Grenada from 2013 to June 2022; held the portfolio of Minister for Climate Resilience and the Environment for 5 years, served as Minister for Education and Human Resource Development, served as Minister of State with responsibility for Human Resource Development and the Environment, served as Parliamentary Secretary within the Ministry of Agriculture, Lands, Forestry, and Fisheries 

- Member of Grenada’s Upper House of Parliament (Senate), where he served as Leader of Government Business 

- Prior to joining government, Mr. Stiell worked for 14 years in the technology sector; held senior executive positions in industry-leading companies, worked with Silicon Valley-based technology start-ups and major corporations, including Nokia and GEC Plessey Telecommunications

Education: 

Mr. Stiell is trained as an engineer at London Metropolitan University and College of North West London, and holds a Master of Business Administration from the University of Westminster in the United Kingdom.
