Antonio Guterres, Bio: 

Mr. Antonio Guterres, the ninth secretary general of the United Nations, was born in Lisbon in 1949 and graduated from the Instituto Superior Técnico, Lisbon with a degree in engineering.

Positions held in the past: 

- 1976 Onwards,  Elected as Member of the Portuguese Parliament in 1976, where he served for 17 years. During this time, he chaired the Parliamentary Committee for Economy, Finance and Planning; Parliamentary Committee for Territorial Administration, Municipalities and Environment during the tenure & served as leader of his party’s parliamentary group.

- 1981-1983,  Served the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe & chaired the Committee on Demography, Migration and Refugees 

- 1991-2002  , Member, Portuguese Council of State

- 1995-2002,  Prime Minister, Portugal

- Early 2000s,  President, The European Council

- 2005-2015 , UN High-Commissioner for Refugees
